Join The White House for a trip to Birmingham. We will be visiting:

Modern Clay, a studio project set up in 2017 and since 2019 has been run by co-operative membership. It is based in Digbeth, Birmingham and is a working studio run by its eight artist members: Leah Carless, Kate Egawa, Mark Essen, Joanne Masding, Sophie Mckinney, Suzi Osborn, Laurie Ramsell and Sarah Taylor Silverwood. We will meet with Mark Essen to hear more about how Modern Clay is run, why it was set up and how the co-operative make decisions.

Grand Union is a gallery and artists’ studios complex in Digbeth, Birmingham. GU support learning, creating numerous contexts for art and life to intersect, with many projects taking place outside of the gallery. We will be meeting with Collaborative Programme Curator, Jo Capper, to hear about Grand Union’s work across the city.

We will also see Grand Union’s current exhibition, And what it became is not what it is now, curated by Louise Hobson and offsite commission, Cooking Sections’ The Empire Remains Shop.

Eastside Projects is an artist run multiverse, commissioning, producing and presenting experimental art practices and demonstrating ways in which art may be useful as part of society. Eastside Projects provides vital infrastructure, supports best practice and works to expand the role of the artist run space. We will visit current exhibitions, Unreal Estate by Sofia Niazi and Weakest Link by Lady Skollie.
