White House Visit to Brighton
Friday 11th October
10am-6pm
Train: London Blackfriars to Brighton
Join The White House for a trip to Brighton.
We will be visiting The Bevy, the first community-owned and run estate pub in the UK. The Bevy is a Community Benefit Society with over 800 shareholders, with any money made reinvested in the local area, making The Bevy More Than A Pub.
We will meet with The Bevy’s Community Projects Manager, Iain Chambers to hear more about how The Bevy started out, how it works with and supports local residents and the structures it has put in place to ensure it is representative of the community it serves. We will be joining The Bevy’s ‘Friday Friends’ group for lunch, made using surplus food.
Following The Bevy we will visit artist studios and gallery, Phoenix Brighton to see their ‘Community Take Over’ exhibition and hear more about how they collaborate with their neighbours on various projects, including setting up a Tenants & Residents Association.
Then we will head to Fabrica to experience Lindsay Seer's new virtual reality commission, Care(less), exploring current public debates around care.
This visit forms part of Mutual Restructure, a programme of research and activity to explore The White House’s structure; interrogating its model, governance systems, decision-making processes, how it operates and cooperates, to move towards a new model of independence.
If you are interested in joining us for the trip or for more information please email Charlie on charlie@createlondon.org
The White House will cover travel costs for the trip and lunch at The Bevy, please note there are a limited amount of spaces.
