Sadia Ur-Rehman
Becon-tea

We are currently working with artist Sadia Ur-Rehman to develop a new blend of tea that represents the Becontree Estate.

Through the last months of 2021, Sadia and a group of local residents got together to share stories, experiences, play games, and talk about their lives growing up in the Estate. They sampled different types and tea from all around the world, with different flavours and blends - discussing how and when tea has been an important part of their lives.

Sadia and her group have narrowed the options down to three blends, and through the beginning months of 2022, we have shared 100 sample packs with the public and invited them to vote on their favourite blend.

Thank you to all who voted on their favourite blend - we are now inviting people to help us choose the logo & packaging design for BeconTea!

The winning blend will be produced by our friends at Batch Tea, offered to friends and neighbours at a tea party coming up soon at the White House, and available for purchase.

About Sadia Ur-Rehman
Sadia Ur-Rehman is a visual artist based in Redbridge, London. Sadia’s practice is rooted in the local and explores the multifaceted relationship between people, place and the idea of home.

Sadia creates temporary interventions in spaces, these could last a few hours, days, months or even years. These spaces operate as places for people to meet, share, learn, create and generate experiences. Sadia creates site responsive work that initiates conversations and interactions, often bringing people together through events, installation and the use of moving image and text.

Recent projects have used tea as a connector to bring people together. Sadia established and ran The Creative Café, a pop-up café, gallery and creative workspace on the Marks Gate estate in Dagenham with a team of local residents from 2015-18.
